A specially designed shovel, appropriated from an object ceremonially used by developers at the beginning of a construction project, now rendered as a static object - inherits a symbolism which can be seen as pointing to an idealist notion of future progress. Used by the artist in a conceptual reversal, this contingent is taken to its peak through proposing a flipped temporality of the inauguration; instead drawing on connotations of funeral rites, burial and necropolitics.
